Sun Reaches Current Size
The
Sun begins as a contracting cloud of gas. As the gas cloud contracts, the
temperature and density at its core increase, and nuclear fusion begins,
converting hydrogen into helium. The energy produced by fusion prevents the Sun
from contracting further. The Sun reaches its current size about 4.6 billion
years ago.
